Chemtrail is a Drum & Bass artist and DJ hailing from the Shoreditch endz of Hackney. Having been exposed to Jungle and Drum & Bass since the early nineties, when he used to steal his sisters’ records by the likes of M Beat, Shy FX, Dillinga, Leviticus and REmarc & Lewi and blast them in his room until his mum screamed to turn it down. It was the breakbeats that got him hooked; unconsciously without realising he was learning how to map drums. As the years went by he was exposed to oldskool UK Garage and US Hip-Hop again through his older sisters. Turning away from or simply forgetting about Jungle and Drum & Bass, he moved towards the more commercialised music. The first CD he bought on his own with his own money was Shanks & Bigfoot “Sweet Like Chocolate” making him take real note of the UK Garage scene. After hearing a few early tracks by Nas & Tu-Pac, he was then introduced to US Hip-Hop and Rap. At high school he would disturb his class by spontaneously beating out breakbeats with his fingers on the table, not realising that he was copying the beats he had heard years ago. He chose Music as one of his subject choices in year 10 for his GCSEs, gaining real knowledge on production and producing Hip-Hop tunes for his exams which he achieved an excellent grade. It was not until he had left school and started work that he realised that a nine to five was not for him, he started moving along different career paths, trying to find a purpose in life. Finally, Chemtrail went back to what he knew he was strong and good at - music. It was his step brother that reignited the Drum & Bass flame as he was a DJ himself. Chemtrail looked up to him, following his choice of music and raves. It wasn’t until he stumbled across a BBC 1Xtra DnB radio show in the early hours of the morning being recorded live from Innovation In The Sun 2005 in Barcelona that his life was dedicated to the Drum & Bass world.
